~ Course Overview ~
Join Stephanie and Clarissa on a tour through the stunning interior of the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, Rome.
Over the course of this weekend workshop, we will lead you through the construction of a series of designs inspired by the geometry of the floor mosaics and coffered ceiling of this beautiful 12th Century church.
During Saturday’s session, Clarissa will first discuss the fractal-like geometry of Cosmati pavements and the interlocking cable lock; arrangements common to these 900-year-old patterns: the Guilloche and the Quincunx.
We will then construct an elegant guilloche design together, along with a hexagonal motif for its centre. Finally, we will draw a selection of tiny patterns for the decorative banding.
During the Sunday session, Stephanie will turn our attention to the unusual geometry of the stunning, ornate coffered gold ceiling inviting playful biomorphic elements throughout.
